Assessing the cleaning needs of an office

In order to carry out a clean to a Pristine standard and ensure the risk of spreading infection throughout the office has been minimised it is first necessary to assess the needs of the office.

When and how often

This may include determining whether everyone working in the office works during the same shift ie 9-5 pm. If the people working in the office work during different shift patterns this will alter the frequency of the cleaning being carried out and the time of the day the cleaning is being carried out for example the cleaning may need to be carried out between shifts and therefore more often IE one clean carried out at 9 am and one clean being carried out at 6 pm. This will also result in a more thorough clean being carried out as more than one person is using the desk and therefore the mouse, keyboard and phone. If everyone in the office is working the same shift, the cleaning can be carried out at the same time of the day and this may result in the same per son using the same desk every day therefore needing less cleaning than if multiple people are using.

What needs to be cleaned

Another factor to consider when assessing the cleaning needs of an office would be to determine the high touch points. Determining the high touch points beforehand can help to ensure the cleaning routine being used is both effective and efficient. High touch points are surfaces that are touched frequently throughout the day by numerous people.

Some examples of high touch points in an office would be cupboard handles, door handles, kettle, reception desk, chairs, keyboards, phones, mouse etc.

Which method of cleaning

When determining which method of cleaning will be most effective to clean the office, four things should be considered: effectiveness – it is important to be confident any bacteria has been reduced to a safe level, kill time – different disinfectants may require different dwell times to be used effectively, this may not always be appropriate for the surface being cleaned, safety – foggers have become a more popular method however they are not always safe to use, and lastly ease of use – the method used needs to be efficient ads well as effective.

Once these factors have been considered cleaning can commence.
